AI research in Europe takes major leap forward with launch of new innovation hub

Anew hub for Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) research and product development has been launched in the heart of Europe , laying the foundation for European AI applications on a competitive , global level .

NXAI GmbH was founded in December 2023 by AI researcher , Sepp Hochreiter , company builder , Netural X GmbH and PIERER
Digital Holding , in close collaboration with the Johannes Kepler University in Linz and its leading research centre , LIT AI Lab , at the Linz Institute of Technology . NXAI will forge ahead with cutting-edge technological research into Large Language Models ( LLMs ), particularly the xLSTM algorithm developed by Hochreiter .
Initial results show that xLSTM works more efficiently ( with less computing capacity ), faster and , above all , with higher accuracy rates than previous LLMs . In particular , xLSTM understands the semantics of texts better than previous LLMs and can understand and generate complicated texts . In addition , NXAI will be researching world-class algorithmic methods in the field of deep learning , for example , to accelerate simulations of complex dynamic systems .
Setting a new standard in AI language processing
AI mastermind , Sepp Hochreiter , laid the foundations back in 1991 and invented LSTM ( Long Short Term Memory ) technology . In doing so , he paved the way for AI as we see it today . The technology was the leading method in speech processing and text analysis until 2017 and has been used billions of times in smartphones to date .

More than half of UK businesses breached in 2023 despite 95 % using MFA

Over half of UK businesses experienced a cyberbreach in 2023 despite an overwhelming majority having deployed multifactor authentication ( MFA ), a new study has revealed .

However , while 46 % of cyber professionals described their MFA solution as ‘ highly effective ’, half ( 50 %) said it is only ‘ somewhat effective ’.
Cybersecurity firm , IDEE , commissioned an independent survey of more than 500 IT and cybersecurity professionals within UK businesses . The research found that 95 % of businesses have deployed some form of MFA .
The ineffectiveness is underlined by the fact that ( 56 %) of the businesses surveyed said they had experienced a cyberbreach last year , with 26 % experiencing three or more breaches in the past 12 months alone .
Al Lakhani , CEO of IDEE , said : “ There is good MFA , and there is bad MFA . Worryingly , judging by the 50 % of MFA users describing their solution as merely being ‘ somewhat effective ’, UK businesses are putting far too much faith in bad MFA .
“ It beggars belief . Cyberbreaches cause huge operational , financial and reputational damage , so why are businesses not taking steps to address the weaknesses that their current solutions so obviously have ? It ’ s like leaving your froant door open when you go on holiday – you ’ re practically begging criminals to come into your house to steal your data or take over your accounts .”
