FEATURE what context determines how that information should be interpreted.
And we are investing an extraordinary amount of technology in helping AI make those determinations. These technologies extend from RAG [ Retrieval- Augmented Generation ] and semantic search to reranking, knowledge graphs, ontologies, context engineering, context filtering, dynamic source selection, adaptive retrieval, iterative retrieval, agentic retrieval, the list is still solidifying.
All of those approaches have value. But Anthropic’ s experiments raise a question that I think deserves more attention:
But should we really be asking AI to figure out what matters all on its own?
Some relevance will always depend on the specific question. But enterprises already know a great deal about the meaning, relationships, authority, policies and business context surrounding their information. Perhaps the opportunity is not simply to make AI increasingly sophisticated at discovering that context. Perhaps it is also to become better at establishing the context we already know before AI begins looking for it. x
