Eksom launched dedicated renewable energy business
Eskom Holdings in South Africa has launched Eskom Green, a dedicated renewable energy business designed to accelerate the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects and support larger power user customers in achieving their decarbonisation and energy transition objectives.
Eskom Green has been designed in response to global benchmarking research on over 20 utilities. The insights indicate that the development of renewable energy projects requires agile
decision-making, access to diverse sources of capital, partnershipbased delivery models and bankable project structures. These differ materially from Eskom’ s legacy vertically integrated generation model.
“ Eskom Green is a utility-scale renewable energy business that rapidly accelerates the options available to South Africa’ s industries to decarbonise and transition industrial and productive capacity to maintain export competitiveness. The business is set to increase the supply of renewable energy to enable customers to lower the carbon footprint of their energy consumption,” said Group Executive for Eskom Renewables, Rivoningo Mnisi.
“ Today’ s announcement is not simply about carbon content compliance but delivering leading-edge solutions at scale to enable our customers to implement their decarbonisation strategies. This new entity is built on decades of power generation skills and expertise which the nation has invested in, and Eskom Green reflects successful adaptation to new technologies within Eskom. We have been playing in this space for some time, and we are now putting a stake in the ground – this is a development that South Africa can be proud of,” said Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane.
Reliance and Meta to develop AI-enabled data centre in India
Reliance Industries( RIL) has announced a partnership with Meta for a data centre project in Jamnagar, Gujarat, in India.
RIL will develop a data centre with 168 MW capacity to be delivered within two years, with an option to scale. This is the first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India for Meta and represents a significant milestone in India’ s emergence as a global hub for AI infrastructure.
Meta will lease capacity from the facility, marking a significant milestone in Meta ' s global infrastructure expansion and deepening the long-standing strategic partnership with Reliance – one that spans connectivity, commerce and AI innovation in one of the world ' s most dynamic digital markets.
The data centre will serve Meta’ s global infrastructure, supporting its core business and AI compute needs, underscoring India’ s growing role in the worldwide digital and AI ecosystem. Under the agreement, RIL will provide comprehensive end-to-end services spanning the entire lifecycle of the data centre – from design and construction to the ongoing management of utilities, renewable power supply, network connectivity and fully managed operational services.
This positions RIL as a single-window solutions provider for hyperscale AI infrastructure in India. The strategic location in Gujarat offers significant advantages for large-scale data centre operations, including delivery capability, renewable energy, water availability, proximity to India’ s western submarine cable landing stations and Jio’ s extensive fibre network.
The data centre will be powered by renewable energy and cooled with desalinated seawater, demonstrating both RIL ' s and Meta ' s commitment to sustainability. x
