Best ‘ workcation ’ cities in the world for Brits

Since the end of the pandemic there has been a shift in the way many desk workers in the UK view their employment . A study found that 43 % of Brits said they would not apply for an advertised job if the description didn ’ t explicitly state that it was flexible and 37 % of Brits asked said they would like a hybrid role so that they could work while they travel for a portion of the year .

But where are the best cities around the world in which to work remotely as a Brit ? A recent study by computing and tech retailer , Currys , analysed 268 cities around the world and ranked them on their monthly rent , basic utility price per month , broadband speed , safety index and the length of stay allowed for UK citizens . These were each scored out of 10 to give a total score out of 50 .
Tbilisi in Georgia takes the top spot . The biggest benefit of Georgia is that with a digital nomad visa , British nationals can spend up to a year in the city working remotely , and there are no taxes for six months . Chiang Mai in Thailand comes a close second . Visitors are met with a wonderful metropolis full of exceptional food , hip live music venues and a deeply Buddhist population . The city scored high for reasonable living costs . In third place is Bucharest in Romania , scoring 36.16 out of 50 . Bucharest is known for its vibrant cultural scene .

Wyoming leads the US for small business optimism , study finds

Six-hundred-thousand US companies – almost 10 % – had to shut down a year on from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic . But with over four years gone by since bars , restaurants and other businesses had to shut their doors , has entrepreneurial optimism made a return ?

Interested in where small business owners were bouncing back , Wix . com analysed historical business application data from the US business census to find out which state ’ s residents are finding the confidence to make their mark on the market post-COVID .
Four years since the start of 2020 , Wyoming ’ s business owners take the crown for the most optimistic .
Prior to the pandemic in January 2020 , the state saw 1,773 business applications – but this has almost tripled to 5,260 in December 2023 .
Confidence to kickstart a new venture is significantly higher in Wyoming than neighbouring state , Idaho , where this increase is only 40 %: just two-thirds of the national average .
On the East Coast , Delaware reigns as home of the most confident entrepreneurs . The state has seen a 133.4 % increase in new business applications since 2020 , doubling from 2,074 to 4,840 .
South Carolina is the only other state on the East Coast to scratch the top 10 , with a 74.0 % increase in new business applications : almost 60 percentage points fewer than Delaware .
Montana takes the bronze medal at 98.4 %, just short of doubling its business optimism since pre-COVID , rising from 1,094 to 2,170 . Just 0.5 percentage points behind is New Mexico , with an increase of 97.9 %.
